Motorcycles in Vegas

Over 100 motorcycles from manufacturers across all eras were on offer at the Bonhams Motorcycle auction held at Caesar’s Entertainment Studios in Las Vegas on 23rd January.  Attracting global bidding, the sale reached a total of nearly $1-million.

A crowd favourite and highlight of the day was the 1929 Brough Superior 680 project. The genuine, matching numbers bike – albeit in pieces – was the subject of energetic bidding from around the world by collectors in the audience, on the telephones and via the internet.  It finally sold to a European enthusiast for $126,000.

Another British classic that was actively bid was the beautifully restored 1949 Vincent-HRD Black Shadow C that achieved $97,750.

But, the motorcycle that perhaps received most attention of all from attendees was the incredibly original, unrestored 1918 Harley-Davidson Model 18J. Wearing a gorgeous patina, this historic rarity was sold to a private European collector.

“In a selective market, conservative estimates coupled to no reserves, produced the best results, often outstripping their guide prices,” said Craig Mallery, Bonhams US Head of Motorcycles.
