GOODWOOD ART FOUNDATION

The Goodwood Estate in West Sussex is renowned for its world-class portfolio of sporting venues and events – and now visitors can also enjoy world-class contemporary art.

Goodwood Art Foundation, which opened on 31 May, presents sculpture across a 70-acre site which has been designed by award-winning horticulturist and landscape designer, Dan Pearson.  Featured artists include Isamu Noguchi (USA), Hélio Oiticica (Brazil), Susan Philipsz (Scotland), Veronica Ryan (Montserrat), Amie Siegel (USA), and Rose Wylie (UK).

And, in a new purpose-built gallery space is a headline exhibition by Rachel Whiteread, one of the most highly respected sculptors of her generation and the first female artist to win the Turner Prize.  Alongside Whiteread’s characteristic sculpture visitors have a special opportunity to see the artist’s photography, which is rarely on public display.

For over three centuries the Dukes of Richmond at Goodwood have collected art, including masterpieces by Canaletto, Reynolds, Romney, Stubbs and Van Dyck.  Goodwood Art Foundation realises the vision of the current Duke of Richmond and Gordon to present the very best of international art in an innovative and engaging way.  “We are taking our commitment to the visual arts to a new level.” he said. “The Foundation will place important works of contemporary art in a beautiful, ever-changing natural environment, while also delivering a powerful education programme to inspire all our visitors.

Goodwood Art Foundation is open Thursday – Monday.  For further information: goodwoodartfoundation.org
