FRIEZE LONDON

Frieze lands in London this week, taking centre stage at The Regent’s Park between 12 and 16 October.

Bringing together galleries from 42 countries, Frieze London and Frieze Masters – Masters is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year – promise to capture the creative spirit of the city.

This year, Frieze London will feature 160 of the world’s leading contemporary galleries, including Gagosian, Hauser & Wirth, Pace Gallery, Michael Werner, David Zwirner and more.  Alongside the main section of the fair, Focus will be devoted to newer galleries, established in the last 12 years.  These include Addis Fine Art, Kiang Malingue, Tiwani Contemporary and Gallery Vacancy.

This year’s special section, Indra’s Net, is curated by Sandhini Poddar, and features ten dedicated presentations along with cabinet-style displays throughout the main section of the fair.  Artists include Eddie Rodolfo Aparicio, Clarissa Tossin (Commonwealth and Council), Claudia Andujar (Vermelho) and Tuan Andrew Nguyen (Galerie Quynh).

Across the Park, Frieze Masters will feature 120 galleries, bringing together six millennia of art, from rare antiquities to Old Master paintings, to luminaries of the 20th century. Galleries include Hazlitt Holland-Hibbert, Sam Fogg, Martin Beisly, Kamel Mennour and more.

Camille Morineau will curate this year’s Spotlight, which will be dedicated to women artists born between 1900 and 1951, amongst them Sonia Balassanian, Nike Davies-Okundaye, Leonor Fini and Sylvia Snowden.

And returning from 2021, Stand Out, curated by Luke Syson, Director of Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, focuses on Global Exchange and features design and sculptural objects from across the ages, looking beyond hierarchical distinctions.  Prahlad Bubbar, Oscar Graf and Racanello & Leprince all feature in this section.

Eva Langret, Director of Frieze London, said:

“This year’s Fair promises to not only celebrate the cultural life of London but also showcase its global reach.  Our participating gallery list reflects the city’s position as an international centre, bringing together some of the most exciting galleries, from major names to emerging spaces.  Our special sections, of Focus and Indra’s Net, will promote discovery and foreground some of the most exciting creative ideas that are shaping conversations on contemporary art today.”

Nathan Clements-Gillespie, Director of Frieze Masters, said:

“2022 marks as exciting year for Frieze Masters as we celebrate the Fair’s tenth anniversary and our launch in Seoul.  This year the Fair will deliver an unmissable mix of art from across six millennia of history, featuring some of the most loved figures as well as highlighting previously unknown talent.  From Neolithic China to Nigeria in the 1960s, the opportunity for discovery is particularly evident in our special sections, Spotlight and Stand Out.”

Frieze London and Frieze Masters have been supported by Deutsche Bank, as Global Lead Partner, for 19 years, continuing a shared commitment to artistic excellence and support of emerging artists.  Key initiatives of this partnership in 2022 include the launch of the fourth Frieze x Deutsche Bank Emerging Curator’s Fellowship, the next instalment of Art: LIVE and a site specific installation by artist Shezad Dawood that delves into the themes of climate change and time and features in the lounges of both Fairs.
