Luxurious handbags and ready-to-wear designs from coveted names including Chanel, Hermès, Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel, Christian Dior, Louis Vuitton and Gucci feature in the live sale, which is led by a rare and collectible Chanel: ‘a success story set’ of four classic black micro mini bags and trunk from creative director Virginie Viard’s acclaimed second Metiers d’Art Collection, 2020.
This limited-edition set comprises Chanel’s most iconic handbags in petite mini sizes presented in a chic quilted lambskin trunk complete with internal mirrors. It is offered with an estimate of £15,000-20,000.
Other highlights include:
A Hermès black box leather Sac Egée, circa 1960. The design features a top handle with gold guilloche clasp and is offered with an estimate of £1,000-2,000.
A Hermès brown box leather Sac Escale, circa 1960s. Designed with a top handle with curved flap and gold clap with twisted rope design. Offered with an estimate of £800-1,200.
A Hermès gold Courchevel leather Faco envelope clutch, circa 1977. The rectangular clutch with fold-in flap closure and contrast stitching is offered with an estimate of £600-800.
Meg Randell, Bonhams Head of Designer Bags & Fashion, UK, commented: “Chanel has long been known as the name behind the world’s most coveted style creating some of the most iconic and elegant fashion statements which have stood the test of time and continue to garner intense interest at auction, evident in September at Bonhams dedicated Chanel sale where a Gabrielle Chanel Haute Couture jacket sold for six times its estimate. For the first live sale of 2024, we are excited to present the ‘success story set’ of four classic black micro mini bags and trunk from creative director Virginie Viard that is rare to come to auction.”
