Indüstria – Glamour and Graphic Imagination, opening at the Dorchester Collection’s 45 Park Lane on 5 February, showcases the striking works of Los Angeles-born photographer Brad Branson and Dutch model-artist Fritz Kok, and features portraits and collages of leading figures of the era including Vivienne Westwood, Stephen Jones, Susie Cave, Linda Evangelista, Boy George, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Annie Lennox, Bryan Ferry and Iman.
Celebrating the bold glamour and eccentricities of the 1980s and 1990s, many of the works on display are being shown together for the first time since their original presentation in the 1980s.
Brad Branson’s photography is renowned for blending the drama and elegance of 1930s Hollywood with the vibrancy of 1980s Los Angeles nightlife. At the heart of the city’s cultural scene, his studio famously transformed into Power Tools, one of the hottest nightclubs frequented by actors, musicians, and artists after dark.
Branson and Dutch artist Kok began collaborating under the name Indüstria after Branson saw some of Kok’s futuristic paintings. Together, they pioneered a new aesthetic, blending photography, graphic design and collage.
The pair brought Indüstria to Amsterdam and London, where their work was championed by experimental publications such as Manipulator Magazine and published in titles including Blitz and Andy Warhol’s Interview magazine. During this period, they met and collaborated with artists including Leigh Bowery and Boy George, as well as designers Vivienne Westwood and Stephen Jones.
Curated by Ackerman Studios, the exhibition will be on display throughout 45 Park Lane’s public areas until April 26, 2026.
